Wraysbury No1

I’d fished ten nights in total on Wray in three times over in 92.
Me, and my mates found it quite easy to locate the residents of this 120 acre lake.
I got so close to two in the margins I reckon I could of got a thirty common in a head lock if I dived in.
I even had a run off of one of them. I’m not sure which, but my hook length cut on something sharp pretty instant. Leaving a large bow wave on the surface. I believe un-experience, and inferior tackle for the job was my downfall at the time. I finally returned just over eight years later. Below is a piece I wrote in my carp diary at the time, which may explain the rig above a little more.
I used a similar rig, but the hook was slightly popped up a little from the bottom, instead of putty making it rest from the eye.

Thirty three nights, mainly in late 2000 on Wraysbury:
snapped one rod trying to reel in a dead tree
got a hook in my face
deflated the bottom of a brand-new £150 dinghy, giving it the appearance of a floating kids paddling-pool
    passed out for unknown reasons
got attacked by a giant ants nest,
too many disasters to list. Yeah, I had some serious fun on Wraysbury. Including playing a carp in December with water nearly up to my nipples to find out I had foul hooked a 30+ common about two inches under the bottom lip. The worst way of losing a carp, or any capture.

I wished now I never see the fish, and it had just came off, and I would of thought it just spat me. Then I would of rather it never even came anywhere near my bait, better than having to tell my mates I'd lost one again. One, I this time netted…..F**k! F**k! F**k! I believe glugging my hook-bait was my downfall.
I only ever wanted to catch one of the original 12 or 13 Wraysbury carp, that was still present in the lake at the time. I didn’t care which one, though if I had to choose it wouldn’t of been Mary, but Mary’s Mate.
I’ve seen photos of this fish that make it look like a wild old warrior I believe she’s still in there. Maybe I get the chance to catch her another winter.
