  Nickolls Leisure is a large working gravel pit quarry and has a gravel bar running through the centre of it.
  It is an easy lake to fish with hardly any snags, so it is ideal for a beginner just starting out fishing.
  All the pegs are well spaced out and are very well maintained and all clean from litter.
  It is classed as a mixed fishery and has been known for the odd eel to be pulled out, the record being 8lb 1oz
  The carp vary from 4lb to the lower 30lbs and most caught put up a fair old fight when being played so if you like a feisty carp Nickolls Leisure is the place for you.
  The lake itself is about 25acres in size and is very saline.
  Most baits do work well here but I found A-tract Bio and pineapple on a snowman set up worked very well here as the carp seemed to go mad for them.
  I fished the flagpole swim and just to the left of it is a lovely holding spot especially early evening and first light but if kept well baited up with any ground bait the carp will leisurely stay around most of the day.
  It also possesses a private bank, so there is no fishing allowed there. You are allowed to fish with up to 4 rods but licences are checked before you are allowed on to the lake, also there are no rules on barbed or barbless hooks being used that is down to the fisherman’s choice at the end of the day.
  During the day the lake tends to host a slight sea breeze and if the breeze is in your direction then you stand a good chance of pulling some nice fish out, one of the benefits of being near the coast.
  The only negative thing I can honestly say is that the lake unfortunately has sailing boats on it, as there is a sailing club here, but both the sailors and the anglers have what they call a gentleman’s agreement so it doesn’t pose much of a problem to the anglers.
  One thing I must stress is you should contact Derek before turning up at Nickolls Leisure as the gates are locked when he is not on site. Also if night fishing the gates is locked from 7pm-7am so the lake is secure.
  But if you are hold a yearly permit a key is issued for your stay then handed in on leaving the lake, so no one gets inconvenienced.
  Hythe which is just down the road from Nickolls Leisure approximately a mile away has a tackle shop so no reason for you to feel stuck should you run out or forget something..

  From Hythe town centre towards Dymchurch on the A259At 1.4 miles turn right into Palmarsh Avenue, the lake entrance is on the left. It is a small gate right next to the garage opposite the Military firing range.
