The uk`s most chilled carp fishing forum:splicing leadcore the animated how2
USING AND SPLICING LEADCORE SAFELY.
LEADCORE SPLICE TO MONO/BRAID:leadcore is a woven type braid with a inner core or lead wire. The main use of leadcore is to pin the last few feet of line to the lake bed so the carp dont spook off it. when using leadcore you need to always check that your lead or swivel will slide over any knots tied especialy the knot joining the leadcore and the easiest way to do that is by splicing your mainline to the leadcore.
step 1: pull out about 1-2 inches of the inner leadcore so one end hasnt got any lead inside for the last inch or two. step 2: slide your baiting needle or nut drill into the leadcore about 1-2 mm (the end without lead inside) step 3: now lightly burn the end of the leadcore minus the lead with a lighter so its a solid edge with a clean hole in the center. step 4: now as shown in the picture push your baiting needle into the leadcore where theres no lead about a inch or more from the end. step 5: now push the baiting needle through the inner core "about 1-2 inches" and out the end. step 6: hook your mainline onto the baiting needle. step 7: now pull the loop of main line inside the core and back out the side i normaly use a loop of amnesia to splice leadcore and find it easier than splicing leadcore with a baiting needle or proper leadcore splicing tool. use this knot to finish off the splice
KNOT FOR JOINING TWO LINES:this knot can also be using for joining shockleaders to your mainline. you have to also tie the same knot on the other line, then moisten and pull together tight.
LEADCORE LOOPED SPLICE:this leadcore loop splice is generaly used for atatching to your swivel on your hooklength.![]() step 1: pull out about 1-2 inches of lead from the core so one end hasnt got any lead for the last inch or two. step 2: slide your baiting needle or a drill bit end into the leadcore about 1-2 mm (the end without lead inside) step 3: now lightly burn the end with a lighter so its a solid edge with a clean hole in the center. step 4: now as shown in the picture push your baiting needle into the leadcore end and back out the side about a inch from the end. step 5: now hook the other end of the leadcore onto the baiting needle or loop of amnesia and pull back into and through the inner core. step 6: now pull it all the way through to form a loop. |
